Synopsis:
This book aims to study the history of the Katoch rulers of Kangra through their coinage. This is an innovative approach to the history of this dynasty as the overwhelming majority of previous studies focus solely on the genealogical roll, written on silk in the Kangra fort. This work however focuses mainly on a typological study of the coinage as a means by which to establish chronology. In turn, this book finds that the typological arrangement of the coins reveals an order for the kings known through coins. This is an order, moreover, which can be matched with other forms of evidence. Also discussed is the study of history through the coins and the economic importance of the area. This book will be of particular interest to those who collect Indian coinage of this period and any with a general interest in the history and numismatics of the period.
